North Country joins mental health organizations and advocacy groups across the country in shining a light on mental health awareness and promoting information, tools, and resources that can help people live their best life:
myStrength Health and Wellness App
This month North Country is launching a health and wellness app called myStrength to benefit everyone in the community. Known as a “health club for your mind,” the free app offers access to clinically proven tools to manage stress, depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, and other common mental health conditions, as well as COVID-19 resources. Users may choose to complete self-directed courses or use one-on-one coaching. The web-based app delivers a personalized home page based on the user’s motivation level each day. You can work on eLearning, explore articles and videos, or just get inspired by the daily quotes and inspirational messages. And it’s available in the privacy of your own home 24/7. Creative Minds, Changing Minds Statewide Traveling Art Show
Hosted by North Country in May, this special show sponsored by the Community Mental Health Association of Michigan, contains original artwork by people who receive services from Community Mental Health Service programs across the state. The show contains a wonderful painting of a freighter named “The Olive” by Donald Makowski of Gaylord in Northern Michigan. See the show at the Antrim County building the first week of May, the Charlevoix Library the second week, and the Petoskey Library the third week. The show highlights the multidimensionality of the artists and showcases the recovery potential of art.
PhotoVoice Program
Members of North Country Community Mental Health’s two clubhouses —New Horizons Clubhouse and Petoskey Club— recently came together in a ‘PhotoVoice’ discussion group about life during the coronavirus. They took photos and wrote reflections about their experiences in order to benefit others who are now struggling. Hear about their strategies, coping skills, and experiences in their video.
NCCMH Mental Health Resources during COVID-19
A handout with local resources, tips for helping children cope with changes, managing stress, and the new “Warm Help Line” (877-470-7130) that anyone in the community can call during business hours to discuss your feelings about stress, anxiety, or depression related to COVID-19.
