New Healthy Michigan Plan Work Requirements and Six-Month Renewals Coming in 2027

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has announced upcoming changes for some Medicaid beneficiaries enrolled in the Healthy Michigan Plan (HMP).

Beginning January 1, 2027, certain HMP members ages 19–64 will need to meet work or other qualifying activity requirements and most members will be required to renew their coverage every six months instead of annually.

Many individuals who will be affected may already meet the requirements through employment, education, job training, volunteer activities, or other approved activities. Others may qualify for an exemption or exclusion from reporting requirements.

To help ensure continued coverage, MDHHS encourages members to:

  • Keep mailing addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses current in MI Bridges.
  • Watch for communications from MDHHS.
  • Respond promptly to requests for information or documentation.
  • Complete renewal paperwork by required deadlines.

North Country Community Mental Health encourages Healthy Michigan Plan members to review the attached MDHHS information packet for details about eligibility, exemptions, reporting requirements, qualifying activities, and steps to prepare for these changes.
